STUDENT LEADERSHIP:

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 timothy 4:12

Overview

Student Leadership is an opportunity for high school students to learn how to lead. This is accomplished by high school students serving as leaders in our middle school ministry. High school students are mentored, coached and developed as leaders. Students will be placed in one of two ministries; either 56 or NRG. 56 meets on the weekends, NRG on Wednesday nights.  Student leaders can serve on the tech team, music team, as a mentor or on the program team.

Our Goal is to allow high school students to learn to lead not by hearing about it, but by actually doing it.

Program Team - focuses on setting up, leading and cleaning up competitions and stage games.

Tech Team - focuses on developing videos, taking photos, running lights, sound and producing NRG.

Music Team - dude, I'm with the band

Mentor - you help run a D-Group and work 1 on 1 with ms students.

Qualifications

Most times when we think about leadership we disqualify ourselves. We think "I'm not a leader". Most times this is not true. We are all leaders to some degree. So do not be discouraged if you do not view yourself as a leader. Instead, ask God to use you and teach you to lead.

What we are looking for in students leaders is: 1. A willingness to learn. Leaders are learners. It is difficult to lead in ministry if you do not have a teachable spirit. Are you willing to learn?  2. Availability. In order to lead you have to be present on a consistent basis. You can't lead middle school students if you're not around. There's not point in applying to be a student leader if you are committed to a bunch of other things. Instead of adding more things to do why not ask God to use you where you are? Or if you really feel like student leadership is something God wants you to do, then stop doing some other things and make yourself available. 3. Want to Love God. You want to figure out how to follow Jesus and love Him. You believe He is real. Life is hard and you struggle, but you keep working at following Jesus.

Application Process

The application process is pretty basic.

1. Pray - ask God about this.

2. Look at the qualifications. Are you Teachable, Available and desiring to follow Jesus?

3. Pray - ask God some more about this.

4. Look over the Expectations. Make sure the dates work for you.

5. Talk to your parents about this and ask them what they think.

6. Pray - Ask God to grow you through this process. Ask him to develop you as a follower of Him.

7. Fill out the online Application and submit it.

8. Copy the dates and put them on your calendar.

9. At this point you'll have a phone interview with one of our adult leaders. They will talk to you about how God might use you this coming year. Phone interviews will be between August 19 - 26.

Expectations

What you can Expect from us:

1. You are going to grow. We will teach you about not just leadership, but life. You will be coached and will develop as a person.

2. You will be cared about. We will take time to meet with you, see how you are and care about you as a person.

3. You will be a part of a team. We think that it is way more fun serving with others than alone. You get to be a part of something bigger than just you. You get to serve alongside other hs students who are striving to follow God just like you.

4. You will have fun. Student Ministry is fun. You get to be silly and laugh and use your creativity and goof off.

5. You will be frustrated. Leading others is hard and a time will come when you wonder "what am I doing?" Just remember, nothing that is significant comes without a cost.

What we expect from you:

1. Be Faithful. Come each week to serve and lead others. Do this consistently.

2. Be a good team mate. Encourage and support the other high school students on your team.

3. Participate in monthly Student Leader Team Meetings. from 6:30-8:30pm.  The dates for these are Oct 3, Nov 7, Dec 5, Feb 6, Mar 6, April 3.

4. Participate in two Leadership Training Sessions. From 6-9pm. Aug 29. Jan 9.

5. Keep following Christ. Do whatever it takes to keep following Him.
